For over seven years, MAI has maintained an ongoing research and evaluation partnership with The Village of Arts and Humanities (The Village), a renowned community-based arts and humanities organization in North Philadelphia. This sustained collaboration has provided MAI with invaluable, on-the-ground insight into the complexities and successes of community-based arts organizations that serve youth, particularly through The Village’s high-quality out-of-school time (OST) arts programs, which include a paid work component for youth. MAI’s work has involved:
- Co-creating evaluation strategies and data collection tools tailored to their unique context and arts programming.
- Developing logic models and a theory of change to articulate how their arts-based programs foster holistic youth development and build social capital.
- Designing and implementing creative, participatory data collection methods to capture participant perceptions and community voice, including the impact of paid work components on youth outcomes.
- Providing ongoing evaluation and performance management capacity-building support, helping them to understand and document their effectiveness.
