Youth Development: OST, Mentoring, & Education Equity

BOOTSTRAP
Funder: Bootstrap and National Science Foundation (NSF)
Project Time Period: 2014-Present

Project Category: Education & STEAM/Formative Evaluation/Summative Evaluation

About Bootstrap: Bootstrap is a STEM program that teaches algebraic and geometric concepts through computer programming, integrating math and computing to enable access to and success in both subjects for all students in grades six through twelve across the country.

The Work: MAI’s multi-year evaluation of Bootstrap has resulted in several rounds of results. For the most recent evaluation, MAI worked closely with Bootstrap leaders to design a suite of reports that were customized to various stakeholder groups, such as its internal staff, its partner sites across the country, and its funders, including the National Science Foundation. The MAI team is currently documenting outcomes among students and teachers, and exploring why variations in implementation occur and how they are related to student outcomes.
